My suggestion after trying to use the SIO2 particle system as a FPS shooter is ...

The particle type needs a direction or velocity vector to make the particle system more versatile.

The current design doesn't easily allow particles to move in a given direction that is unique to each particle. The particle type doesn't include a direction or velocity vector. You could use the current direction of the emitter but in some circumstances (e.g. bullet as particle) this isn't OK. The ...

A simple, 2 level game to illustrate all the various aspects of building a game with SIO2. Should include a simple main menu, 2 levels, points, game state saving, and exiting. Doesn't need to be fancy, just illustrate how all the pieces work together across a multi-level game.

Firstly, really this is a fantastic SDK. Well done.

It would be great to see some tutorials on the coding side though!
The current video tutorials are mostly 'how to use blender', for which there is already a wealth of info on the web.

After going over all your code behind the tutorials, I feel this is the other hidden gem so to speak! How easy you have made it to code up a 3D game. Highlighting this will probably get a big uptake of the SDK.

Hi all

This is my first post just to say hello and thank you so much for such a great piece of work. I've been studying the sio2 code and tutorials for the last 2 weeks and I am pretty impressed about the whole thing. Obviously you got the knowledge, God bless you for sharing it dude

I have a good C foundation but I'm new to game programming, blender and opengl so still having a lot of questions in my mind... fortunately it's getting better day by day. Got an iMac two months ago. Pretty ...

Web Developers, for gathering a documentation!

Hi, i was wondering if we could gather some web developer(s) and get a database-driven documentation up and running? I can certainly make a quick and dirty one in PHP/MySQL, but i am not very experienced with web development, so if anyone wants to, we could collab on getting a good documentation site up, where users and/or author of SIO2 can post the documentation, much like the MSDN library ..

Anyone interested in the idea / up for the challenge / can spare server space for it ?

Get SiO2 to WWDC

Hey I was wondering if we could pass the hat around and get SiO2 to WWDC this year. Anyone got a spare WWDC ticket asset they could transfer? Maybe we could pitch in and reimburse you some $$ for transferring the asset and maybe we could pitch in some donations for airfare to get him up to SF for the conference. This guy has some amazing skills and it would be awesome to pick his brain for a couple of hours during WWDC and maybe kick around some ideas. Anyone interested in this?

Thanks,

First, like many posters on this forum, I'm very grateful that you made this technology available for the "rest of us" developers. Believe it or not, I attempted (and succeed) to make Blender exporter a few years ago targeted for 3D cell phones using Java Mobile 3D (jsr-184). I was able to export meshes, lamps, animations, textures, and skeletal animations from Blender to a Nokia phone simulator. I was amazed that a cell phone could render a full scene from Blender even back in 2003!

I am an experienced programmer with most of my time spent in C# and PHP with a decent amount of Actionscript 3, Python and Objective-C thrown in as well. I do not, however, have any experience with OpenGL and only minimal experience with C. Does anyone have any resources they recommend for getting up to speed on OpenGL ES 1.1 and C? Books or tutorials would be great.

I am wondering why C was the language used here. I am in the process of implementing the use of IPO curves into SIO2. I want to be able to have SIO2 handle IPO curves for lights, cameras, and meshes using the same code. This would work wonderfully if all three of these objects inherited the same base object. Only problem is that the way the C code is written each object cannot be handled with the same code becuase each object is different.

I am coming up with a solution that works around ...

Hi everyone! First of all, I want to say thanks to the developers of SIO2. It is probably the most feature-rich open-source SDK for the iPhone at this time. I'm currently new to iPhone game development, but I've been making games for Windows and some consoles for a few years now. What I would like to suggest is a sort of sticky post on the forum for an introduction guide on game development using SO2. I've been used to object-oriented game programming (main loop, actors, states..) and I was hoping ...
