Would it be better to use SIO2 or just OpenGL for 2D games? I would like to have my player be animated from a large texture file where i change the uv coordinates.

What do you mean by "large texture file" the max width and heigh is 1024x1024 that's pretty small if you ask me Wink

well it's big enough if the frames are small. So would 2D animation be fine with OpenGL, or is there a part of sio2 that makes it easier?

Why you don't simply use an OGV to animate your texture... it'll be alot smaller and you have basically no restriction in size...

so i would have a seperate ogv for each of the character's animations, and swap them out?

no just one ogv, then you seek inside it to switch to the animation you want...

No but you can use other blending method that will take out the black around your character...

I think that might just work... Honestly Im not really comfortable with 2D stuff... expect for GUI with OpenGL... maybe you should check cocos2D... SIO2 is more 3D oriented...
