Texture Questions + SVGZ texturing?

First, I wanted to know, how many textures, reasonably, per frame, can the iPhone manage?
Also, apparently the iPhone has a compressed texture format. Is this automatically converted or do you have to save to that format specifically?

Finally, is there any chance we'll see an SVGZ (zipped SVG) texture format? I realize the texture would have to be cached at runtime, but this could help some designers as far as lowering the total package size is concerned. Not sure how expensive it would be in terms of render-caching, tho.
