Of general interest: The new platform is running on the SoC S5PC100 from Samsung [engadget]

Here is a link to a Samsung description (pdf):[link]

Anyone know what type of jump we'll see with the PowerVR SGX? Anyone lucky enough to pick on up yet?

Just tried running my app on the 3GS just now, wow it's fast :-)

Using SIO2 1.3.5 of course, I actually compiled against OS 2.2.1 SDK, Xcode 3.3.1 with "Standard (armv6)" architecture and -fno-regmove/-O2, and saw immediate jump in loading time, general responsiveness and fps. FPS boost was significant: solid 30~35fps where before I was averaging 25fps.

Interesting to note that I'm using UIKit overlays and they seem much more responsive (UIAlert over EAGLView), wonder if that's due to a new OpenGL/SGX driver?

Nice to see the SIO2 engine run so well on the 3GS, now I *really* want to burn some of the performance on DOT3, shadows, etc.

PS: Will try to compile for NEON extensions over the weekend...

A follow-up benchmark:

* The CPU performance is Faster by 40-70%
* The fillrate* is 3x to 4x higher
* Texture effects and filters are about 10x faster
