Update from 1.3.3 to 1.3.5 bug Empty Update from 1.3.3 to 1.3.5 bug

Post  John Sun Apr 26, 2009 10:14 am

I updated from 1.3.3 to 1.3.5 this morning... and re-exported all models with new exporter.

My game renders, but 2 seconds to render a single frame.

Is there something obvious that changed I'm overlooking??

The time (2 secs) is spent in the Sio2ObjectRender routine.. but no smoking gun changes in that routine.

I somehow feel it's material or texture related because one of my objects was accidentally missing a texture and everything rendered nice and fast, and I fixed the texture reference and it was slow again. Initially I tried the update without re-exporting and that was rendering slow as well.

Could I be that close to some limit where a single 512x512 texture can make a difference? And would changing from 1.3.3 to 1.3.5 have triggered this issue?

Any tips?

John

Changing two of my 512x512 textures to 256x256 has it running fast again. I'm surprised I'm this close to a texture limit of some sort, I'm still a little new to Sio2 and iPhone, are there any good texture memory usage dumps?

Thanks,

John

Ok, learned about the instruments... and seems I was at 24megs of textures which would really kill performance going over that...

FYI for anyone else, here's a brief blog on the instruments
