textures not showing - trying to follow tutorial04

I'm working on tutorial04 and although the textures show in blender, they do not show on the iphone simulator. does anyone have any suggesions? i'm using 64bit blender on windows. here's a screenshot of my blender file where the texture for the cube shows as it should

Is your texture a power of 2? Is it in a supported format?

yes, it's 256 by 256
