SIO2 for 2D?
I'm evaluating a number of engines for 2D iPhone game development. Is SIO2 suitable for this or is it overkill?

SIO2 is more 3D oriented but yes you can also use it for 2D games. Take a look at the game page on the SIO2 website... you'll see that the free edition have been used for quite a few 2D title.
Re: SIO2 for 2D?
Hi,
I am new to SIO2. I am currently developing a project which can be implemented using 2D, but it must has 3D perspective. The scene type is a little like 3D bowling game. I have used blender and converted my scene to .sio2 file. However, I found that it could probably because my scene's objects are too complex and the performance in iphone simulator is not good. In fact, I also do not require to render all 3D objects in this project.
I would like to know if there is a way that I can "post" a background image as my scene and only render some mainly 3D objects in SIO2? For example, I can simply render alley and bowling ball as my 3D objects and others in a background image. I think it should solve the performance issue of my project.

Re: SIO2 for 2D?
you can use widgets to render 2d images.... widgets are quite useful as they can be interactive (like buttons) are just static 2d images. Tutorial07 uses widgets so its a good place to start, you can also do a search on this forum as there are a few good posts about using them, one has some good sample good in it...
Good luck

You can look at this thread for another example of using sio2 widgets:
